Why draw?

There is a transformative power in observational drawing. Many of our participants describe it as grounding and deeply fulfilling

When we respond to our visual curiosity by drawing we are engaging directly with the world around us. While looking can be enjoyable, it is still passive. Wheras truly seeing is the reward for curiosity, sustained attention, and patience.

In a digital culture shaped by immediacy, endless scrolling, and temporary dopamine hits, drawing can feel like a quiet resistance to all of that.

To draw from observation, one must slow down internally - even if the mark making itself is  rapid. Drawing sharpens the senses, helping us notice what we might otherwise overlook. Anyone who draws regularly knows there is a quiet intensity in the process. The drawing itself becomes a record of lived attention, like a diary entry.

Studies have linked focused creative activity with reduced stress and improved wellbeing. Just as importantly, joining a class creates an opportunity to meet like-minded people and spend time looking closely together.

Now, draw! - and learn how to keep going…
